Terms of use
Short, and meant to be read: this is a free tool that runs on your own machine, your pictures remain entirely yours, and there is no warranty attached to any of it.
Your files and your rights in them
Opening a picture here grants this site nothing. No licence is taken, no copy is made anywhere that we control, and no claim is made over anything you produce with the tool. You are responsible for having the right to work on the pictures you open, which matters most for photographs you did not take yourself.
The tool is provided as it is
It is offered without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of fitness for a particular purpose. Browsers differ, devices run out of memory, and an encoder can produce a result you did not expect. Keep your originals until you have checked the output — nothing here modifies the file on your disk, so your original is always still there.
Limits you should know about
- Intake stops at 120 MB a file and 100 files a session, and at roughly 100 megapixels a picture — 40 on iOS — because past that a browser canvas fails rather than complains.
- JPEG and PNG are the two formats written here. Other formats can be read and will leave as one of those two.
- A re-encode does not preserve metadata, colour profiles, animation, interlacing or 16-bit precision.
- No result is guaranteed to meet a byte target. Where a target cannot be met, that is reported rather than approximated.
Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, the operators of this site are not liable for any loss arising from the use of it, including loss of data, loss of a photograph you did not keep a copy of, or the rejection of an upload by a third party whose rules changed. Where a jurisdiction does not permit that exclusion, liability is limited to the amount you paid to use the site, which is nothing.
Acceptable use
Do not use this site to process material that is illegal to possess or distribute where you are. Beyond that there is nothing to enforce: the tool runs on your machine and there is no account to suspend and no service to withdraw.
Changes
These terms may be updated as the tool changes. The version on this page is the one that applies, and a change that materially altered how files are handled would be described on the privacy page as well as here.
